Muslim mob reacted to the row over the Prophet Muhammad cartoons on the streets of London by waving banners and shouting “Britain you will pay — 7/7 is on its way.” Now stop me if i'm wrong but these clearly are threats being made. Have the police no power to arrest the anti-british protesters? Why don't the baying mob get on a plane/boat whatever...and leave Britain for good?

I am aware that many of the protesters may be british and many may not have been. What I meant was that for them to say such things against Britian..why do they continue to stay here if the have so much hate against us. I agree with one of the answers below. If the Government don't do anything about this I too think that Vigilante groups will be formed.

If the authorities had gone wading in there, arresting left, right and centre, it would have been broadcast across the world and would have merely served to underline so-called Western intolerance. The 'people' who carry out these extreme acts would have more fuel to add to the flames in the form of newspaper photos/BBC coverage etc.

Far better to video the demonstrators, gather intelligence and then pick them off one-by-one, with the authorities' own video footage of their behaviour. Less messy and less opportunity for these 'people' to use it as propoganda for their own ends.

Because of the cancer that is positive discrimination in this country. The average person (i.e. white, atheist/christian, middle class) is endlessly scrutinized to make sure we don't say or do the 'wrong' things. If we do, then it's racism or inflammatory or anti this, that and the other. Now, if people like those at the cartoon protests do exactly the same thing, they're protected by a ring of do-gooding PC 'equality' BS. After all, we wouldn't want to offend them by clamping down on their views that Britain should be an islamic state and that all non-muslims should burn in hell.
The same goes for the recent pope affair. He didn't say anything wrong. He merely quoted some words from another source. Suddenly, the wacko's were out screaming about how offended they are about being branded violent. Of course, they protested in such non-violent ways as shooting nuns, burning effigys and declaring jihad.
Essentially, it's one rule for a minority and a different rule for everyone else. If I was in charge I would have put the cartoon protestors in a locked room with the relatives of 7/7 victims. Let's see how hard they are then.
I just find the whole islam vs the world situation incredulous. I thought makind had moved on from letting a load of hocus-pocus myth govern how we live. Is it the 21st century or the 1st century? The protagonists should just grow up and scuttle back to their boring little lives and story books.

Yes the police have the power to arrest those murderers but disappear up there own back-side for fear of being branded racist or upsetting the immigrants.

They will never leave our shores until we have people in power that will stand up to be counted, and kick them out.

This Government have allowed these groups to grow in numbers and demonstrate on our streets quite freely, even to the extent of closing OUR public roads and providing police protection squads for them while they rant and rave atrocities against us.

They are definitely a danger to us all, and we, the general public, have no protection from them.

I fear that unless the Government act on this quickly, then vigilante groups may well be formed and do the job for them.

I believe that to have arrested the perpetrators of these vile comments at the time would have caused even more trouble and may have led to a far more difficult situation. I am sure the authorities are aware who thesepeople are. Although these idiots actually use and abuse this countries right to freedom of speech they obviously do not represent the wider population.

It will be a very sad day when all who differs with any government is arrested. I believe that threats of violence against any government should be punished, but think that Blair was right to follow a softer appraoch with the cartoons issue.

Remember , many Muslims are UK citizens.

I thought it was inciting racial hatred and yes, they should have all been arrested. Incidentally, as British citizens, where would you deport them to?

It would be an interesting experiment to arrange a demonstration whereby Cathholics protested and held placards declaring "burning the Pope...Another Iraq is on its way!!" or "Damn you for bombing us - Enjoy the next Crusade", and see how long before the Police move in with night sticks.

Muslims should disown all this type of people. And our police and politicians should have a bit of backbone.
