I don't think it's easy for a tongue ring to get infected, just always make sure you brush your teeth like normal, without brushing your tongue OUCH, and use listerine. That's all I did. It didn't get infected, needless to say I don't have it anymore. If you recently got it done tho, it will probably be sore and swollen for a minimum of 2-3 weeks, but no longer than 2 months.
