I started out slightly underweight, but have gained almost 40 pounds already (holy cow!) at 6 1/2 months and I AM NOT eating more than normal or pigging out on greasy or fattening foods....so I don't understand why I have gained so much already. I know that when you're underweight you are supposed to gain a little more than average, but 40 pounds already and I am not done yet!!! I was just curious how other women's experience went with this?? Was the weight harder to lose after a second pregnancy than with the first or did your body respond about the same afterward? Thank you for your answers

I gained 13 lbs with my first pregnancy but lost 32 within 2 weeks after my son was born! Then, with my daughter, I was sick all of the time so I gained nothing at all. As she grew, I lost. Ended up getting my gallbladder removed 5 weeks after she was born, so I lost even more weight from that - BUT - I put it all back on & am
about the same size I was before I got pregnant the second time.
It's just re-distributed differently - mostly got a belly I can't get rid of. Good Luck to you = & congrats!!! I don't think you've gained too much - you just do what you have to do - the baby will take what he needs, believe me!!! Worry about losing the weight AFTER you deliver - just enjoy carrying your own little miracle!

I gained 30 - 35 lbs with both of my pregnancies which doesn't make it wrong for what you have gained. All women are different and I think if you are lightly exercising and eating the right foods, there is no other way to control what you gain. After both of my children were born, I actually got down to my originally size both times, but after the second one (now 6 years old) it is much easier to put weight on (more so than it was with the first, it could be my age) So anyway, don't worry about it, just make sure after the baby is born, and once you feel better, start an exercise routine, and the weight should come back down. Take care of yourself, and good luck with the pregnacy. I hope things go great for you!

Well, I gained 40lbs total. I tried to eat semi-healthy foods and I continued to workout up until about 2 weeks before I delivered. My son is now 4.5months old and I have about 10lbs left to lose. I lost around 25lbs in the first few weeks. I have to say these last 10lbs are really hanging on. I also should mention that I had to have a c-section (unexpectedly), so I have a bit more of a "pooch" to deal with than I had expected. I have really just started working out on a regular basis again, so hopefully that will help. I think if you are determined, you can definitely lose the weight afterwords. This is only my first pregnancy so I can't answer the latter part of your question. Try not to get to caught up in the number on the scale. Try to focus on eating healthy and getting regular exercise and remember your body is doing an amazing thing right now - growing another human being! I completely understand how you feel and how hard it is to deal with the weight. I actually broke down and cried at a couple of my doctor visits after I got on the scale; my doctor had to give me a pep talk!!! Try to enjoy this miraculous time in your life because before you know it will be over!!! Congrats and good luck!!!

Well with my son I gained around 20 pounds it was really easy to lose .I was back in my jeans in about 2 weeks. With my daughter I gained 40 pounds. I lost alot after she was born but still didn't lose it all.About 6 months ago I started working out and watched what I ate and went back to work full time as a CNA again and lost 20 pounds. I was so happy because I was back to 130 pounds which is what I was at when I got pregnant both times. Come to find out in Auguest on my birthday I was 6 weeks pregnant with my 3rd.I havent gained a pound yet.So its pretty much up to your body what you gain and what you lose.If you really want that pre pregnancy body back your gonna have to work for it.For some it takes time and for others it feels like it takes forever.Right now dont even worry about it be glad your having a healthy baby.Congrats and good luck.

First and foremost.... Did your doctor check you for gestational diabetes? That's a big symptom.. Massive weight gain.. you'd figure you were going to birth a preschooler ya know..lol

Anyways.. To answer your question. I was 115 with my first and was 165 and she was 2wks post due.. I lost all the weight super fast and you couldn't tell I had a kiddy except the strech marks on my very upper thighs..

My second, was a boy.. I was 120-130ish (I went to nursing school and really became totally inactive and grazed on junk and basically sat on my butt the entire time so I put back a few pounds) And I had my son 4wks early and I was 189.. Put that on a 5'0" frame.. I was a weeble wobble!! lol So goodness knows how much I would have actually weighed had I lasted those extra 4 wks....

As for weight loss... My body didn't respond the same way.. I walked out of the hospital with #1 wearing pre-preg clothes... With number 2... a few days after I had him I still looked like I was 8months pregnant.. I was just terribly distended... It really didn't take long to be back to my pre-preg weight.. I'm just a little discouraged because I would like to lose the weight I gained when I was in school.. and that seems really tough for me right now....

Good luck! Try not to stress! Try to enjoy that pregnancy! It goes so fast! (And congrats on your impending delivery!)

I was a little overweight when I became pregnant (15 pounds from my goal/healthier weight), but I was in good shape and working out almost daily. I wanted to gain only 15 pounds. I initially lost 6 pounds. I gained overall 31 pounds and I have less than 2 weeks to go. BUT I have been very happy with my body throughout the pregnancy! I can't complain. People tell me I look cute and I'm "all belly" everyday. They can't see these thighs!! I look forward to getting back sexy... sexy back... but mostly I cannot wait to meet this busy body little girl twisting inside and pokin me all the time. This is my 2nd pregnancy and I don't even remember how much I gained 14 years ago with my first. I'm buying a jogging stroller and will resume my "eating clean" diet when baby arrives. Congratulations and best wishes.

I gained 70 pounds with my baby and lost 55 of it right away. I had retained that much water!! I also had an almost 10 pound baby! Every women gains different amounts. It's been 4 months and I still haven't been able to lose the extra 15 pounds. I had a c-section and an infection and couldn't do much the first month and a half. I'm still working on it. Don't worry, if you doctor thought you were gaining weight too fast than he/she would put you on a diet and talk to you about it. If your that worried, ask him/her. It might ease your mind. Good Luck! :)

I'm 28 weeks pregnant, and I've gained about 22 lbs. I was a little overweight when I got pregnant, and I try to watch what I eat, but my Dr. still said I've still gained more than I should have! I think, since you were underweight, and If your doctor isn't concerned about it, that you will be just fine. My aunt gained a grand total of 80 lbs with her last pregnancy, and she lost it all within a year (just diet and exercise!) so, it's not impossible to lose it afterwards! Good luck, and just stay active, it helps! :)

I gained 48 pounds with my first and 42 with my second. It took me no less than a year to lose the weight both times. No matter what I did, it refused to even start coming off until 9 months postpartum hit. It was definitely more of a struggle to get the weight off with baby #2.
I know it's hard but, if you are eating properly, your body is just gaining what it needs to thoroughly nourish this baby. Don't worry about it, you are healthy and you will lose it. DITTO ON THE BREASTFEEDING, you burn a lot of a calories by breastfeeding.

DON'T PANIC. The same thing happened to me with my first and second. What I should have been doing is alot of walking. Walking is great exercise when you are preg. Unexplained weight gain during preg can be just that, unexplained, or it can be signs of water retention or gestational diabetes. Your metabolism slows GREATLY when youre preg. The important thing is to eat small snacks and try walking.
Everyone's body is diff and every preg is different. With my first I was slightly underweight and gained total 52 pounds. Second I gained 50. I have lost all but 15 lbs of that weight without trying. Good Luck
