It would be assuming the public actually paid attention and voted according to the issues. Problem is most of the American population knows more about Tom Cruise's baby than they do about politics. Willful ignorance and apathy abound, which is one of the main reasons politicians are able to get away with so much and still get reelected year after year after year.

Never. Because everyone wants their piece of the pie. Look at the Base Realignment. If that had been truly "open" everyone would have buckled down into defensive mode and we'd still be blowing money at bases that make no sense. If you're going to cut spending, you'll actually have to do it quietly. Public Outcry is the biggest cause of runaway spending. Especially in election years when opponents are attacking incumbents for "not taking care of the folks at home."

Along with a valid voter Id a short current events test , should be
given before you are allowed to vote, that's a joke, Just imagine
a legal and informed voter, the Democrats would squeal.
