Gandhigiri, or Gandhism, or Gandhi's principles require a higher level of living, as the principles advocate tolerance and truth under even the most trying circumstances. This makes it tough for normal people to practise Gandhi's principles in everyday life.
To answer your question, whether it works or not depends on the individual and his adherence to Gandhi's principles.
Gandhi has stated in his autobiography, "I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and non-violence are as old as the hills." To practise Gandhi's principles requires a superior level of thinking and lifestyle, one that precludes worldly good and focuses on inner peace and harmony.

Man! you have forgotten the history. It has worked All over the world. Most of the socially respected persons are inspired by Gandhiji. Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan, Ang Sui Ki are still endorsing Gandhian values. Its our mistake that we are not promoting the thoughts of Gandhiji. Mind you, He never preached any thing. But he lived it. We only have to follow a fraction of it. we will instantly experience the social benefits.

No way can it work with the competition and the struggle of individuals. I do not believe in those principles and i do not think that someone could succeed in life with the same.

Yes, definetely. When our repeated protests and agitations don't work on our government then there is no better way then "Gandhigiri". Gandhigiri is the other word for practicality.
