The Scot's "have long memories"? You kidding, just how long are we talking about here?! They must be the oldest folks ever. Numbnuts.
Its a case that English transgressions, of which there are many, have and are propagated through legend and culture. Even "Flower of Scotland", a modern song, has its roots in battles between Scotland and England. Its time to live and let live. Its in the past and modern English people cannot be held to a racial ransom due to the actions of our forefathers.
Incidentally, most of the actions for which we are hated around the world for were acts of BRITAIN. That includes you guys north of the border and in Wales (etc), you were just as screwed up as the English. I've had enough of the English in the Boer War, the English doing such in India or the English atrocities in Africa. Grow a pair and accept equal responsibility!

I know, it's pretty annoying. We in England as a rule have no problem with the Scots, except the ones that they cause through their undying hatred of us. That may be a generalisation, as will be this entire post, so sorry to any Scots out there who don't hate us, but that's the general impression we get.
As for the 'you went round half the world pillaging' argument, I think you'll find that was Great Britain and the Scots were there too.
Someone said,
"for the same reason the Irish do
the Aussies do
the Americans do
the same reason half the world do"
I'll give you the Irish, but as for the rest of them that's untrue. I meet Aussies and Yanks, etc, who say they love England, and I don't think any are sad enough to bear a grudge based on actions hundreds of years ago (ahem Scotland). I'm also intrigued to know what we did to Australia? Nothing as far as I'm aware, they were all British settlers and they still keep the Queen. In fact, we have very good relations with almost all the commonwealth, ex-British empire.
Even if the world did hate us, the actions that caused it wouldn't have been the actions of Great Britain, not just England. Why would they single out one nation of it to hate? The people around the world who hate us are going to hate you too.
For heavens sake, history has come and it has gone. To hate the English on the basis is just an excuse to hate us, not a reason. Unless of course you're terrible losers (I wouldn't discount this option).
Then, why do you hate us? Is it jealousy of us as the richest, most affluent and most powerful British nation? Or is it just some unifying hatred which distracts you from your troubles. Either way it's pretty damn retarded.
"English whereever they go they are unwelcome because their attitude and their past.
They have robbed in the past all the world. They are the greatest looters.
Imagine that even the music of their national anthem is stollen. (God saves the King = part of the 1st Symphony by Brooks)
Kohinoor? Tops the crown of England. Belongs to the Indian people.
Parthenon Marbles? ......"
Once again, that's all the actions of Britain. The Queen is your Queen too. God save the Queen is the British anthem, that you have a Scottish one too and we don't doesn't mean it isn't your anthem too.
As for being unwelcome, that's just untrue. Really, it is, that you hate us doesn't mean the rest of the world is that sad.
The fact is, had you made it to the world cup, we would have supported you. But all we got from you was abuse.

LOL, I SO know what you mean!
It's simple prejudice and an inability to forgive and forget.
I lived in the highlands of Scotland(near Kyle of Lochalsh) for many years and we were the only English people for miles around. As soon as people realised we were NOT tourists, their attitude towards us changed completely. Admittedly, there were some who took us for who we were, but the vast majority where we lived, were the Campbell's or the MacDonald's; when they weren't still fighting their age-old feud between their two clans, they were taking their hate out on us, the only English family there!
Although I don't condone hate and prejudism, I understand why the bitterness has lasted so long. Just a cursory look at history will show that the Scots were the brunt of the English desire for more land, power and the resources they have there. Ultimately, it was the English that started it all(well, "English" as in the Saxons, then the Romans, of course!)by invading in the first place, thinking the Scots were nothing more than heathen barbarians.
But yes, I have to agree with your observation. The country is a remarkably beautiful place, but the people in general, are not, when it comes to sharing their country with any English who wish to live there.

Im scottish and live in england and I have the same issue. I believe it is all bravado though as most people individually are fine and only when they get into groups will hey be like what you say. It is all about perception and what you feel about it and what you have heard. If you want scots to dislike you then they will, if you want then to like you equally they will. However history dictates that there will always be an undercrrent of resentment, much the same as the English and French have.

Lots of people have a problem with the English. You only have to look at our history to see why, I am English and proud to be so, but our ancestors robbed, pillaged and ruled every nation within our Empire with an iron fist. Killing at will any who did not want to be ruled by tyranny. Including the Scots and Welsh and Irish there are many counties who have a problem with us, and they are probably justified. The word Plantaganet (spelt incorrectly in all probability) would send a shiver down any true Scottish spine.

The Scots don't have a problem with the English, or with anybody.
People who come to live in Scotland but act superior and stand-offish make a problem for themselves. The Scots treat them the same no matter whether they are English, Scottish, American, Indian, or anything else.
People who come to live in Scotland and act chummy, same-as-you and glad-to-be-here do not make a problem for themselves. The Scots treat them the same no matter whether they are English, Scottish, Italian, Pakistani, or anything else.

It's to do with history. We only became united when James 1st of Scotland and England took to the throne.
