It is expanding, but is it expanding all the time? It is more likely that the universe makes a golf movement (in and out). It expands and when the forces that expand diminish, the gravity takes over and the movement is towards each other again.
So the big bang will be followed by a big implosion. Which will be followed by a big bang, which .. and so on
