I've had cats all my life, also had fish, a rabbit, hamsters and mice when I was much younger.
I'm looking for a good indoor pet that is relatively low maintenance. There will be 2 of us living in the flat but we're both pretty busy people and can't dedicate our lives to an animal.
We were thinking of a Chameleon! but they need a bit too much care than we can give currently..
My brother has his heart set on some kind of aquarium with some ornate shrimp or something similar. Either that or another kind of Lizard.
We're open to suggestions though. As long as it's fairly low maintenance but still rewarding.

Thanks!

Any pet would give back what you put into them. But if you do not have time to dedicate to a pet then the best course of action is to not get one. They desire attention and love just like any animal and that includes people we are animals too. If you dont have time to love than you dont have time for a pet. Even my rats who are low maintenance animals get held and petted everyday.

Get some shrimps and tropical fish. They're easy(ish) to care for, just need cleaning out every so often and feeding and checking the water temperature's ok. You don't have to walk them, they don't keep you awake at night and they're relaxing to watch when you've had a stressful day at work!

i know someone who has a Guinea pig they keep in their flat they keep it in a hutch in the hallway during the day then let it run around loose at night and sleep on their laps, very cute and fairly low maintenance, just remember to clean it out and water and feed.

Try betas. They're beautiful, low maintenance, don't care if you're gone all day, won't bother the neighbors, and you can have little bowls with betas in every corner of the house....

There aren't too many animals that I can think of that is very low maintenance but you could try a snake, fish, a hermit crab...

Guinea Pigs.... I have two females (probably best to have two of the same sex unless you want to breed them...) They have the run of the lounge. A bit messy sometimes especially when it comes to cleaning out their bedroom (bit like having teenagers really!!!!) They are great fun and great characters... I would highly recommend them to anyone with or without a garden. These two are well travelled too and come with me wherever I go away.

Guinea Pigs rule......

Give a Guinea a home please......
