maybe they can't believe they have a girlfriend either, so they were looking for confirmation... ;-)

It is not a good idea for a guy to flaunt his girlfriend in front of so many people.
Perhaps they are bragging on themselves rather than the girlfriend. It would certainly seem to stem from a certain amount of insecurity. Perhaps they are just so pleased with themselves they do not know how to respect others. Sometimes they are being deliberately mean, maybe to other women, maybe to other guys.
Perhaps they think this is what the girl wants them to do, but if the girl doesn't want him to do so, and has expressed this, then the problem definitely resides with him.
Some girls insist on this, and perhaps this girl wants to be bragged about and reassured.
It has been my observation, and experience when I was immature, that women soon tire of this, and perhaps gets a big ego, and decides she can do better. Sometimes the girl actually appreciates this behavior, for a while. Some girls will take advantage of a guy like this; if not for money, then for running errands and buying little gifts, and actually promoting her in public so that she can find a different guy.
It is immature.

Hey Nd,
Much like the dog and his tongue....
Because THEY CAN!
Wouldn't you, geek or not? I mean, when we are dressed well, don't we walk a little taller?
When you have shined and polished your car, don't you spend a little longer out there hoping people will appreciate it?
Done work on your house/yard, and then spent time with the neighbor hoping they would say something?
I don't see any difference. When you've worked hard to get something you've wanted, you are happy to flaunt it!
Like I said, because they can!

"Flaunt", I think, would be a subjective description of what is going on between two people............in the eyes of an onlooker.
Mostly ...... when someone, geek or not, is with someone they are attracted to or really like... ...they appear happy and care-free. That is not flaunting.
Flaunting a "trophy"-girl when both parties KNOW that's the deal, well, maybe THAT could be considered "flaunting".

Insecurity.
They look at their woman as their prize or as a value of success.
Who the hell knows why a beautiful woman is with a geek in the first place - he shows her off for the public to look better, she's probably only with him for the size of his wallet...or the size of something else.
Get it?

If the guy introduces you to his friends and family, then he may just be doing what's normal and appropriate. At least he's not trying to hide his girlfriend.

Because they know they are lucky to have a girlfriend, so why not flaunt?
