lately i've been having these chest pains that feel like something's squeezing my heart. when this happens, if i breathe in too deeply or something then it will feel like it's popping (maybe like you pop a knuckle, you know?) and it feels like it's being squeezed. is this the sign of a heart complication or disease? it usually only happens when i'm laying on my left side and i'm propping my head up with my arm/elbow. i have allergy-induced asthma, but other than that i don't have other health complications. i don't want to go to the doctor, i just want to see if this is something serious i should get checked out.

It could be your heart, but if you have had this for a while it is unlikely to be your heart. If you are worried, go to the doctor. I am a doctor and, without a physical exam, I would guess that you have a rib subluxation. It is a fancy term that means your rib is slipping out of its normal position, like your spine or any other joint can do. I would look into going to a chiropractor to get it looked at. They can do an exam and determine if this is truely the problem. If you don't see a chiropractor currently, go to www.sorsi.com to find a doctor in your area, I am a member of this group, they are all over the U.S. and I would trust any of them with my own family. I am in the St. Paul, Minnesota area, if you are near email me or go to my website at www.healinghandschiro.com. Good luck!!

I am only a nurse, but I highly suggest going to see a doctor, doesn't need to be a specialist at this point. Just explain to them what is going on.
