Why can't you do both? If you are in college, you are not in classes ALL DAY long. Your mother will be in surgery (therefore you won't be IN the room with her during that time). If the recovery period after she wakes up conflicts with your schedule, I would recommend explaining it to your professor(s) and going to the surgery. I would imagine your mother would take off from her job or other responsibilities if you were having surgery, wouldn't she? More importantly, she will need your help and support in the time after she gets home, not just at the hospital. Don't let your brother or anyone else come between the relationship you have with your mother. It's between you two and you do what you feel in your heart is right to do. All the best.

Go support your mom. You CAN afford to miss one day of classes. This isn't some friend of a friend having surgery but your mother. And if you say you are that close you should't even have second thoughts about this. If she needs you there, be there.

If it was my mother I would go to maybe half a day of classes but talk to all my professors and explain the situation so you don't miss any work and get behind. If you have no major classes in the AM then go be with her of course, she is very important to you.

I would go to the hospital with my mom, and I would just make up the work at school. If you explain to them what's going on I bet they would let you get it done now instead of after, that way the only thing you have to worry about is being there for your mom. Family is more important anyway. I hope I've helped.

if I were you I would go be with your Mother, you only have one mom and moms mean more then college classes,
back in March of 2005 after I had left my abuser, my mother became ill and very sick, she had to go to the hospital and have emergency surgery, I was not able to go to be with her, she died March 2nd 2005, my heart just sunk, and I got so depressed because not only she died but I was not there to be with her.
I don't mean to scare you, but if at all possible you should try to go be with your mother for her surgery.
Good Luck with your decision. And I do hope your mother gets well.

I would go. Your brother may just be looking out for you but if you feel you are doing good in your classes I would go. You can always go to your professors and tell them in advanced you will be out. 1 day isn't going to hurt. Most, importantly, you will be with your mom. Yes, definitely go.

I'd go to be nearby during the surgery. You can afford to miss one day of school somehow.

i think u should definitely go to the surgery, I'm at university and i know its important ,but catching up is easy if you put in the extra time after being there for your mum. what if the situation was reversed? would u want her to come to your surgery...?

I would go to school and visit when you are able to seeing as it's not "major" surgery. But if you are fine in your classes, do what's in your heart !! You don't want to regret it later!
