I believe it's a market driven, self preservation move to keep the respective industry relevant and in the news. It's ridiculous. As an American, I fully agree that there are way too many award ceremonies. Take television for example: People's Choice Award, TV Guide Awards, Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, SAG, Soap Opera Awards, Peabody Awards.
Do we need all these awards? Heck no.....

I think we should ask why aren't the right people getting the awards. I mean everyone goes crazy over entertainers. OK they entertain but what about real people. The people who work 40 hrs a week and the volunteer another 20 working with children, helping homeless. or so on. Those are the people that deserve recognition!

personally i think it's too much, they get way over paid for so-called performance.( there are only a few who can really act).when you get down to it, it's like politics, you gotta do this or that to make so in so happy so they will do your movie so your company will make money, it's all a game these days for money.
