I live in the Middle South, and would like to plant a Crepe Myrtle Tree in my front yard about 8 feet away from my covered porch. Which kind would you suggest? I would like one that looked more like a tree than a bush. Thanks for your help!

Which color would you suggest? My neighbor has the ones with the dark pink flowers, but theirs are small (less than 5 feet), and I would like something with some height.

Crepe Myrtles are trees. They can be pruned and trained to be bushes. You can start cuttings in water. You can also start cuttings with rooting hormone and regular potting soil. I'm in myrtle beach, sc what color cuttings would ou like?

If you would like it to look more like a tree than you can train it to look like a tree. Buy a bush that has only one thick stem, if not you can just cut the rest away. As new shoots or stems sprout cut them off at what will be your trunk.

Check with your extension service.
Always get the variety that is adapted to your area.
The last thing you want is powdery mildew all summer long.
In Texas, we have about 300 varieties from dwarfs that only get 24 inches tall to full grown 30 ft trees.
Make the correct choice once and you will be very happy.

When I lived down south all I saw were trees. My boss used to call them southern lilacs.
