After downloading a program on my Dell computer, how do I get the icon on the desktop? I'm new at computers and just don't know how to get something on the desktop. I have windows xp.

Well most applications folder's can be found by opening the hard drive directory (double-click My Computer, and open local hard disk) and finding the folder of the program (usually named the same as the program or the company that created it) right-click the exe file (most of the time has an icon by which you can define it) and select Send to->Desktop(create shortcut) and voila! If you cannot find the app's folder there do the same thing only when you open the hard drive select Program files and locate the folder there.

Right click on the programme you want to put as a shortcut into your desktop. Click on copy. Right click on your desktop where you want the short cut to be placed and click paste. A shortcut of the programme will be created on your desktop

go to the start menu, go to the program that u want a short cut for, right click on it and select 'create shortcut' that should put one on ur desktop

when you download something it asks for either of the 2options
1]run and2] save
choose save and then the computer prompts you to save it in which location ,,,,,,,,,,,,now this is the place where you need to have your eyes open and select the destination to desk top
say
c:\subdir\filename to c:\Documents and Settings\all\Desktop
or type it c:\Documents and Settings\all\Desktop there you go
