Simple compliments, the eyes will tell the sincerity.

If a guy was to say this to you with sincerity, and he met it from the inner most depths of his heart,It would be the greatest compliment of all.
It would take many pages to be explained.

Simple is best, when a person goes on and on it tends to be uncomfortable. The statement of fresh painting? Well, I have never heard it but it doesn't sound like a bad thing, a compliment. Better than "your like watching paint dry" that would be boring.

I think that simple compliments usually seem more sincere than flowery ones. They sound more spontaneous, less contrived... Body language is also really important.

(Not sure about the "fresh painting" comment; were you maybe wearing a lot of make-up? Otherwise, it's _probably_ a compliment...)

Any compliment will do, so long as it's sincere. There's too little "nice" in the world to be picky.
The fresh painting--could be he's afraid of getting too close (if it's a he) or he wants to say something original rather than just tell you you're beautiful.

Just a smile can enlighten my whole Being,
i remember after i finished playing an acoustic
composition on my Ovation that was about 20
minutes long and my friend had tears rolling down,
well, that's all it took for me to feel that i was being
complimented with such treasured expression
that it brought a tear to my eyes also .....
No words, just expression of feeling, very simple,
yet, much more than words could say .....

I like any kind of compliment as long as it's sincere. What kind of a world are we living in when we get picky about the kinds of compliments we like or not. I guess being a beggar I can't be a chooser.

What I like are those compliments that are insults in disguise, but really uninformed, bigotted insults.

i.e. "Wow, that's some good work there Jenny, I don't think a man could have done it any better."

Ha ha haha.
