Here is the USA it is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of the month. It is a very festive day with a full meal. There are many people who go to football games on this day. I myself manage a bar, (Veterans Club) And I cookup at least 5 - 8 turkeys. Deep fat fry them as well as all the fixings. Everyone who comes in eats for free. They are not required to purcahse anything. They can come in and eat and then leave. It is NOT a money issue for me. It is about giving thanks and the fact that I can help people who are more needy than myself. This year will be the 5th year I do this and I do expect it will be another success.

We celebrate on the 4th Thurs of Nov. most people do parades, football and eat turkey because that's what the pilgrams had. But I celebrate it differently I met my husband 5 yrs ago in mar and i had never been out of Florida, so for Thanksgiving he took me to NC I for the first time saw autum, leaves changing, cold Novemebr weather in the mountains of Boone, NC. We have gone everyyear since then and we eat at Dan'l Boone Inn I don't cook anymore on Thanksgiving this restaurant serves family style, no menus, you get an American traditional Thanksgiving. In 2005 we got married up there, it's a tradition in our family now. A five yr old tradition that hasn't been broken yet...I love starting new traditions with my new husband like that

Every year in November, we celebrate the first winter survived by the pilgrims. Without the kindness of the Native Americans who helped them through a tough winter they would have surely perished.
We celebrate this day with a feast where we roast and eat an actual native american. Then we laugh about how we tricked them out of their land.

The 4th Thursday in November is the legal holiday. People who celebrate traditionally gather with family and friends and eat a large meal, which usually includes turkey.
There are Thanksgiving Day parades (huge one in New York) which are on TV. Later in the day there are lots of Football games to watch as well.

Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday of November, but many people celebrate on Thursday and Friday. We get together with our families and share a large meal to remember the Pilgrims and the Indians who kept them from starvation. We are also supposed to remember all of our blessings and give thanks, but most people focus on the food or football or the great sales on Friday. It has now become the kickoff for the Christmas season.

The last Thursday in November is the day of thanks. It is celebrated because John Madden discovered the ten legged turkey and because of dull football games. It is also the eve of the Christmas shopping season which begins the next day.

WOW, DONIELLE, COOL RESPONSE, DID YOU MAKE PILGRIM SHOES IN CLASS TODAY? I haven't heard that story since I was in gradeschool.
The holiday as we know it today, was signed into law by the F.D. Roosevelt administration in 1941 as being the 4th Thursday of November. There is a whole history of dates and reasons, that does go back to pilgrim times though was not observed as a "thanksgiving", at the link below.
