The "rebels" are conforming to the rebel group. Its just that they're not conforming to the bigger group but still they're conforming. So doesn't "not conforming" just seem pointless?

Yes, I liken this to the store "Hot Topic" for example, its for people who don't want to dress like everyone else, but if all of the stores fan base is dressing alike, they in turn defeat the point. So yes, so called "non-conformists" are conformists of some kind.

I don't wholey agree with this, rebels that conform to a rebel group are conforming... but your question stated people who don't conform... rebel groups aren't the only non-conformists...

Often there are "loner" geeks who don't conform too, they're not seen as part of the rebel group... but eventually they get accepted for who they are, unless they make a choice not to be.

I am a non conformist and I don't belong to any "rebel" group.

I go my own way and I never do or say what everyone else is doing and saying just to fit in.

I am a non conformist not to make a point. It's just the way I am - I have always been different - people always make a point of telling me that I am different - why pretend otherwise?

A man who wears a tie to work because he truley likes it is not a conformist, but if he wears ripped jeans to a party because he think he'll be different and cool then his is a conformist.

A non-conformist does what they want to do with as little regard with the opinions of others as possible. Do what you want to do man and live how you want. Just don't fuss with no one else's business and bring no harm to others.

That's a true non-conformist. A rebel and a non-conformist are not the same thing!

I do not think that "not conforming" people can be grouped as one. Not conforming is a trait and this will not be constant for all things in life. hence they cannot be grouped.

Right. It's like an atheist that make a religion out of being a non-believer.
