"How do I find out if my Dad,who passed, had a will, his wife won't speak to me and I can't afford a lawyer?"

The quick answer to your question is "Go to the Probate Court and ask the Clerk to see what the status of your father's estate is before the Court and if there was a will."

Start at the Probate Court in the jurisdiction where your father was a resident before he died.

Since you have an interest in your father's estate, you may contest the appointment of the person who seeks to administer his estate or even petition the Probate Court to be appointed to do so. You may also contest the distribution or disposal of his estate for various reasons-- even if he left a Last Will and Testament. If you don't do those things within the allowed time periods (which vary by jurisdiction), then all you'll be able to do is see the Probate Court records (that must include the will, if one existed and was provided to the Court).

Seek a lawyer connected with a free legal assistance program and request him to file a case in court to order the wife of your father to present the will for probate.

If you know who your Dad's lawyer was, go to him. He is legally obligated to tell you if you are in his will or not.

Contact his lawyer, or, if not possible, ask another family member.
