1 kilobyte = 2 raise to power 10 =2^10= 2x2x2x2...ten times
1 Gigabyte=2 raise to power 30=2^30=2X2X2X2 thirty times
1 GB = 1024 x1024 times 1 KB
=1048576 KB
hope this would help!

The hard drive companies consider kilo to be 1000, and giga 1000,000.
But operating systems like Windows and Linux consider it to be 1024 and giga = 1048576, and thats why a hard disk labelled as 80GB shows up as only 74 Gb in Windows.
