i say it's between clapton, hendrix and jimmy paige

personally i think clapton has stood the test of time and is still a legend.he has spanned a bigger variety of different styles than paige or hendrix.clapton has mastered blues rock and even pop.hendrix was a genuis but i think his untimely death only added to his greatness and he was'nt around long enough to be compared to the likes of clapton or paige. what do you think.

All those top guitarist from Julian Bream (Classic) to Lee Retenour(Jazz) from Steve Howe to Steve Vai, from Richie Blackmore to Jimmy Page from George Harrison to John Patrucci they all great guitarist with their own style, but no one play like Jimmy Hendrix specialy on stage, unfortunately, I never seen him alive but I saw his DVD compare to other guitarist He is the best ever, regardless how good is Eddie(Van Halen) and Carlos(Santana) He explores his guitar till end, with older technology. He is my man

I think that you guys are forgetting some of the greatest guitar players.

B.B. King
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani (sp)
believe it ot not Prince is actually decent on the guitar
Wyclef Jean

How can you make a decision with out including them.

I agree with with Hendrix being the greatest of all time and Santana being the greatest alive. If there was an award for creativity.. I would give it to Vai.. Get and listen to G3.. You'll see what I mean.

David Gilmour far surpasses Clapton. Clapton still plays the same stuff he did 30 years ago. Gilmour as always progressed. As for newer talent try John Petrucci or Steven Wilson. Jimmy Page isn't to bad either.

There are lots, but Trey Anastasio and Eric Clapton are definitely near the top of the list.

Hendrix was a Master
Clapton brilliantly versatile
But don't forget John Renbourn (Acoustic - from Pentangle)
