I have this student keep insisting that I am someone that I am not

He keep insisting that I am from a certain country and I am also a citizen of that certain country and I look like I am from that country though I am not .

I don't know why he's insisting that I am. My student is korean in all my students he's the only one who said I am not american and my accent is not american. Because he said my accent is clear
I wonder if I speak fast and with a deep american accent would he still understand me?

Maybe if I say this "Ok whatever makes you happy I am what you say I am" He'll stop insisting

what do you think?

Maybe he's clumsy at expressing himself "in English".
I'm not sure if you know that, if he's the newcomer to American, he mayn't know it's improper to mention something of a certain coutnry, ethnic, accents, etc in the U.S.

The U.S is mixed with lots of ethnics, so members would avoid offending someone by mentioning things like above.

Korea is composed with ONE ethinic, they are not well educated about rasicm or discrimination, because they don't have to know it seriously.

If he's really a newcomer to the U.S and a little child, he may be trying to get your attention or just kidding?

Does he speak English well? If he's the new immigrant, just show mercy on him,,,he must be under stress with new enviroment.

Come on..relax...everybody is from a certain country...that's nothing to be ashamed of...that's destiny...someday u have to tell everybody where u really are from...u see I have no fear to say that I'm from Iran...though many Iranians conceal their nationality...

Just kiddin...I think it's not really a problem...let the HyperGenius Korean say whatever he wants...and u keep calling him sth like that
(I don't know any phrase in US for calling someone who thinks he is intelligent...here to tease people if they think they're intelligent but they're not, we call them "IQ")

Sounds like he is doing it for attention. I would tell him in flat out terms that you already told him once and he needs to respect you and let it go.

Don't speak any differently than you already do. If this student keeps bothering you, go to the head hauncho.

What for him if you are a Korean and what if not a Korean. You thank him for him telling you look like Korean and say at the same time you are not. Then it is his problem what he thinks further.

Stay centered, stay calm and don't reply any more.

There is only a power struggle if you enter into one. Just smile and walk away - he's only persisting because he is getting a reaction. When the reaction stops he will desist.

Good Luck xx

Show him your passport if you are that concerned about it. Anyway he should understand that in a multi-cultural society what you look like simply does not necessarily have a bearing on your country of origin.

Perhaps you should ask him, "Why do you want to know?" I've found this to be a fairly effective way of pointing out to a person that their inquiries are somewhat rude without being overly blunt.

Dont change for him, he is only looking for attention and if you change he will know he is getting to you and might make it worse, if he persists go to the head of the place and report him
