I have only read Pride & Prejudice thus far, yet I'm about to start Sense & Sensibility.

I loved Pride & Prejudice. Witty, humorous, romantic, descriptive and just so passionate, this was a book I truly enjoyed! I very much appreciate the thorough old English writing; so elegant and simply wonderful to read. Not so thoughtless as books of now. Additionally, seeing as how Jane Austen was English, she had a certain "dramatic effect" in her writing-- unlike in American stories, though of the same century. Such a difference!

I was surprised at Keira Knightley being chosen for the role of Elizabeth Bennet in the movie-adaption of Pride & Prejudice. I thought she would make it too, modern or even a bit ridiculous. But instead, she was fairly good. Nearing "great". Although the excessive use of laughing was very annoying and confusing, her overall acting was good. As for the others, they were extremely well-chosen. Except for Mrs.Bennet maybe. She didn't seem to have any particular beauty nearly equal to Jane's in my opinion, like in the book... but I adored the actor (Matthew Macfadyen) for Mr.Darcy! Beautiful. And absolutely beautiful acting. He didn't smile as mcuh as in the book, but after all, I guess they had to be more secretive about his feelings to show more mystery between the two characters.

I actually saw the movie-adaption of Sense & Sensibilty, and has immensely influenced and pushed me to read the actual book. Absolutely. The movie is so dramatically passionate-- so strong! I loved it. So good hope for the book.... : )

I'm deeply interested in all of Jane Austen's novels; after such a good start with two mentioned earlier, how could I not? So, I conclude that I will adore all work of Jane Austen but will have a draw between two books of her. Perhaps Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility? ; )

Thank you for reading... I know I write terribly long... but, I'm quite at my leisure (as Mr.Bennet said) ! : )

If I am interested in a comedy, Emma takes the prize. If I'm looking for something more romantic, Pride and Prejudice or Mansfield Park. Though I didn't quite "get" Austen until I watched the BBC version with Colin Firth. Then I went back and re-read P&P. From there it was easy to pick up Sense and Sensibility (a similar story to P&P) and Emma.

I most identified with Mansfield Park though. I loved the heroine being a bit of a tomboy and being in love with her best friend, whom she grew up with.

I have read most of her novels--all but one--so my personal recommendations are Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice. While I enjoyed reading all of her works, these two stand out at least in my mind of having the 'best' heroines. There's just something enjoyable and likable about them. Emma is probably my least favorite book by Austen.

Pride & Prejudice. Probably because it was the first story I read from Jane Austen. I also thought it was a great love story

None of them. Or any of them. They all have the same plot and are really, really dull. Basically, if you've read one you've read them all.

I've read Sense and Sensibility, Emma and started Pride and Prejudice - then I realised it was the same as the other two and stopped, realising there were better things to do with my time!

I would highly recommend Wuthering Heights, The Tennant of Wildfeld Hall and Jayne Eyre, though, by the Bronte's. Much, much better than Jane Austen!

If the first novel you read is Pride and Prejudice, when you sit to the others - you may feel disapointed... I loved this book! S&S is OK, eventually Emma:)

None. They are all the same. If you have to read one (and really, you DON'T), then read any of them and then change the names around and, hey presto! you've read them all.
There are not enough hours in my life to waste reading a Jane Austen novel. Or Henry bloody James.
And there shouldn't be in yours either.

I just had to read all of her books. Took me some time, as I didn't find her writing as enjoyable as others do. The one I really did like was Lady Susan. It is written as a series of letters. Lady Susan is a widow who causes quite a stir in society for her brash, "unladylike" behavior.

I love all of Jane Austin books, sadly there are only six complete works of Jane Austin. if you've not read any of those, start with pride and prejudice. although my favorite is persuasion.
