I am very sensitive to caffine and have to avoid coffee and tea - so as a result i am tired until about mid-morning when i seem to perk up. I do get a good nights sleep (7-8 Hours) but it seems to feel like i have had 3 or 4 hours. Any ideas or tips?

You're feeling of low energy must be due to something other than the amount of sleep you are getting because 7-8 hours is very respectable. If you feel so bad, perhaps there is some underlying problem such as lack of energy from you diet - do you balance you diet properly? Could you be anaemic - excessive periods for example? Do you exercise enough? Is your job too stressful? I don't think you should look at 'perking yourself up', this is basically bump starting the car every morning - ask yourself what you could do to improve your general well being. Allergy test? I'm thinking allergy, wheat intolerance. Hopefully not anaemia, are you depressed? That has an unbelievable affect on your energy levels. Talk to a homoeopath.

A shower helps. I also read that a glass of orange juice has the same effect of coffee first thing in the morning. I think that your body needs a shot of sugar to get going after 8 hours without it. Kinda like a jump start first thing in the morning.

You probably think you get enough sleep, but you might need more. It's different for everyone.
Also, just because you sleep, doesn't mean you're getting quality sleep.
Perhaps you should go to bed earlier and you'll wake up earlier. That way, you'll have longer to get ready and feel better. Or perhaps you should look at your diet and exercise regime. All of these could be factors.
Very best of luck. I think you're very sensible to resist using perk ups such as coffee.

Did you know that most people that think they are tired are actually dehydrated? Water will walk you up more then coffee. I didn't believe this but then I quite drinking coffee in the morning a switched to water, and lots of it. After the withdrawl passed I felt way better in the mornings then I did with coffee.

Try a nice hot shower followed by a cold one, if you can brave it! it really does get your circulation going! Then have a cup of boiled water with lemon juice, this gets your metabolism going and then make sure you have a good breakfast with complex carbohydrates (cereal is a good example!) this should keep you going till lunch! Avoid sugary foods as they will give you a sugar rush followed by a low where you will feel tired. Hope this helps :-)

I am feeling the same - my guts go mad if I drink coffee on an empty stomach :-)

The *best* thing to drink is a big glass of warm (boiled and cooled) water with lemon juice. It flushes you out and rehydrates you after a long night of sleeping and sweating.

usually the reason why your body is tired or why it takes you awhile to get going or anybody its because we need to get our blood pumping and oxygen into our system. the best way to do this is by working out in the morning, now I now that if you dont have the energy to go about your day why would you have time to do physical work it does not make sence right? well ! if you can get your self to do 10 push ups or 10 jumping jacks the oxygen will flow and so will your blood and you will feel quite awake

Go to the gym before work. It's hard the first couple of mornings but after that you're surprised how much better you feel. Gets all the blood pumping I guess..

A nice refreshing cool shower should help. Then fresh air on the way to work.

You could try ice-cold orange juice to wake you up as it's very refreshing.
