i am with Vodaphone PAYG. Its really good. Mon-Fri after 7.30pm, you only pay for the 1st 3 minutes, then you can have up to an hour.
If you spend £2.50 between Mon 7.30am - Fri 7.30pm, all texts over the weekend are free. If you spend £5, all calls and texts are free all weekend.

When choosing a pay as you go network you need to consider what network your friends and family are on. Calls to the same network are usually the cheapest calls you can make. After looking at that, you then of course want to pick the one with the lowest charges. I think this is T-Mobile at the moment. Also make sure you can get decent coverage in your area!
As for picking a phone. I know that the Nokia 6280 is not a good phone so give that one a miss. I don't know the other models you mention very well, but you can read reviews for them from actual owners here:

Hope that helps you choose.

On the network question, people will all recommend this or that but remember this.
BBC's watchdog programme has thousands of letters complaing about every company under the sun, millions in fact and last year one company had more compliants than all the rest put together.
More complaints than estate agents, solicitors, building companies, car manufacturers, hospitals, insurance claims, etc etc.
And the company with the honour of absolute worst of the worst?
Was O2.
