You need more than this to keep safe on the net, here is what I use.

All are free and very good.
Antiviral. (free)

AVG free. Excellent protection available from: http://www.Grisoft.com

Don't use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.

Anti-spyware (all free)

Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com

Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Windows Defender - from Microsoft downloads.

Spycatcher

PC starter kit at download.com 20 of the best recommended programes for people new or less advanced in computers. Check all three pages, at bottom see Security/Tools/Fun

C Cleaner.http://www.ccleaner.com/

This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.

Norton for anti-virus and also use a ant-spyware program such as Spyware Doctor

With freeware you often get what you pay for the only semi good freeware program for protecting a PC is Spybot - Search & Destroy
but it only covers Spyware and Spyware Doctor tends to be better over Spybot - Search & Destroy only because it finds things that Spybot S&D misses

I ran antivir for about 6 months once. Thought it was doing good. Then I got hit with a terrible virus, worms & trojan horses. Wound up haveing to do a system recovery. I've been Norton anti-virus for about a year now. It's been good. I recommend Norton.

I use AVG (the Pro one) and its quite effective. I never detected this worm in my network with Norton but detected it after I switched to AVG.

Also, don't forget to install an anti-spyware program. You can try out programs like Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, or Microsoft's One Care program.

Most importantly...update and scan often. Make sure that you detect viruses early and fast or else it might spread across your network (like mines).

hi, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus and protect your PC. but you need to pay for the software

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:
