Obviously the answers will vary depending on what culture you are asking about. However, here in the United States. Women wear bras primarily of cotton for its comfort, and they use them to both uplift their breasts and to keep their nipples from showing through their outer garments. Also panties which are primarily a brief style, although sexier underpanties/thongs are commonly used. They like the bras are primarily made of cotton. For the panties though the is not only a more comfortable material but also more absorbant, because panties are primarily worn for sanitary reasons.
