I am trying to delete a file but it keeps saying the file is either being used by another person or program but I can't see any application programs running in Task Manager. I even tried deleting it in Safe Mode but still that didn't work. Scanned it with Norton antivirus but no virus nor trojans detected.

The extension of the file is .DVDSCR.XVID-DVL.avi

I have tried to open the file in windows media player and notepad.

Could computer whiz shed some light on this problem for everyone's benefit?

How is this possible?

did u download a movie using a torrent??? if so..that could be your problem...open your torrent search..bitcomet..u torrent..or whatever...remove the movie from there first ...if u do not...u will not be able to delete it....if that is not the problem..go to start..control panel....folder options...view...u will a list with some check marks....find the one that says.."show hidden files and folders...select that one.....press apply..press ok...now go into safe mode.what ever u downlkoaded the movie or program with.....lime wire..bitcomet..so on..that is what is still using ..and not allowing u to delete...one other thing i can think of...go to the file..right click ..go to properties...it most likely says" read only...uncheck that..press apply..press ok..try to delete it now

You could try using a file shredding utility such as StompSoft's Digital File Shredder Pro which can easily and permanently delete files or you may also want to try to delete the file while running your computer in safe mode. Other than these, the only other thing that I would try is deleting the file in DOS via the command prompt.

Hi, this file can be deleted through the help of MS-Dos if you know the destination where the file is save, then easily u can delete this file. For that first of all, plz make the back-up of that folder data in which it is saved otherwise u lost all that. After the back up of imp file run the MS-Dos on and there type format:>/destinationname where the file is save and simply press the enter. This will be deleted from there. Otherwise from my personal experience deleter all your cookies if it is loaded from internet and temporary file of the PC. Check your Add/remove progms. If it there shown the name delete it from there. All the best!

Go to search for files or folders, and click search for hidden files, type in the file name and when it shows up on the list right click and delete, then empty your trash

The SCR in the name leads me to GUESS that the file is somehow being used by the screensaver. Since the screensave has "claimed" it you cannot delete it as long as the screensave is there.
Again, that is a guess...

Sounds like a porn-based virus. Update your anti-virus software.
