years. I want to live in a country that values humanity, with a health care system that works, a simple life, where people care about each other, about the environment, about the planet. Anyone have any recommendations?

First, I have to recover from the sadness of when I read your first respondent's reply. The "best country"?????? It is that kind of naivite and denial that has created most of the problems-by choosing the kind of administration that exists today. I find it very disturbing that people don't wake up to the loss of well-being this country has been exposed to-it's like a spreading, systemic disease. In any case, Salsa, I would say almost anywhere else would be an improvement. My only recommendation is that you do not display yourself as being an American because I know you don't want to be affiliated with the policies that this govermnment inflicts. Try Canada or Europe or if you want to really have a shift of lifestyle and culture go to other parts of the world. I think you ought to start by taking an extended exploration and see what place fits you best. You'll know when you are there!
And yes, everywhere has it's challenges, but there are challenges and then there are challenges. When one lives somewhere and their own government operates from a non caring position and thrives on manipulation through fear, that is like choosing whether to leave an abused home or stay and continue to get beaten down. Go where your soul and spirit are being nurtured, not killed off. Good Luck on your journey.

I am Canadian. Move to Canada. In some ways, life in Canada is not that much different from life in the USA (so it wouldn't be too much of a culture shock to an American like yourself), except it is much better in almost every respect. There is universal health care, an excellent public educational system, relatively low crime, greater environmental awareness, a strong sense of community, and lots of really nice, polite people. And the best thing is you don't have to move very far - we're just across the border. You can still watch American television channels and visit your relatives and friends in the USA easily, without actually having to live there. On the downside, the weather isn't quite as nice as the southern parts of America and taxes are much higher. Overall though, I think you would really like it here. Come on up!!!

Try Norway. From what I hear it's very big on equality, everyone gets paid really well, doctors and trash collectors are on about the same money and they have a kickass healthcare system. On the other hand I don't know how easy it is to move to Norway, and it gets pretty damn cold/dark in the winter....

And in reference to the person who answered above that America is the best country in the world - you are out of your mind. I'm guessing you've never been anywhere else, or that you've never seen the huge amount of government/business enforced poverty in your own country, or for that matter what your government does to other countries. There is no best country, we're all just different - JESUS!

All of Western Europe is better than the US, with many other problems. In general people respect life more, work less and enjoy themselves more than in the US.

If you don't mind the cold, scandinavia is certainly among the better choices. The best thing about the USA is you can leave anytime you want. Love it or leave it! I left it 16 years ago, and love it. (Hey 32 days vacation and 35 hour work weeks for the same pay - it's a no-brainer!)

I second the comment about Norway - it came top in a recent poll of satisfied residents. Unsurprisingly, just like you're thinking, America was way down in the list of surveyed countries. Unfortunately I can't find the source.

In order to be happy in life, you have to first be happy with yourself - no matter where you live. And then realize that no matter where you live, there are going to be problems. Then you can come to the conclusion that you can either be a part of the problem, or a part of the solution. No matter where you live, make it a better place to live.

I am Canadian and I would say that Canada is better for those things but getting worse due to American influence so I moved to Denmark. It is pretty good. Most places in Europe are pretty decent places to live.

sure you'll have to wait until you die and go to heaven. where ever you go there are problems one-way-or-another, there is no perfect place any where, you have just got to make the best out of it,why move to another country when they all wind up coming here. you know what? take a trip another country and see some of the crap they go through and guarenteed you will come home fast.

No one is forcing you to stay here. Im sure it just as easy to sneak into Mexico as it is to get out. But I think youd enjoy canada more. Yahoo has alot of maps available to plan your route. Good luck! Bye Bye!
