i know computer science and engineering pay more, but i keep hearing about how more companies are hiring cheaper labor from india, leaving those with degrees here out in the cold. i.t. sounds safer and more opportunities, but pays less and i think there might be the same competition from india. which of these have the best outlook for someone in their early 30s to get into? if not any of these, what is a good recommendation to major in anything that has to do with computers? thanks in advance

IT still has some areas which have not been given away to the Indians, but they are things like systems architecture and project management, so a bit further up the food chain than traditional programming and system design. On site Hardware maintenance is another area that is hard to offshore.
