Just ask her. She's your mum!
Why does this matter? Will you love her any less if she is a lesbian? (If so, you are a twit.) If she is a lesbian, is she disappointed that you are hetero? Are you worried that you have gay tendencies?
Grow up! She would do ANYTHING for you because she's your mum! Don't stress her out. Make her life BETTER. Tell her that you love her. Often. And mean it.
Good luck!

How old are you?
What makes you think she's a lesbian.
Does it matter (in general)
Does it matter personally to you. If it does, elucidate ...
Is it any of your business?
If she's had a child, and the situation is not clear to you, she has most likely had a hetero relationship in the past. She is then perhaps not entirely lesbian but bisexual, or even hetero.
Tread with care, you might unwittingly cause your mother a lot of pain.

Interesting. Elsewhere they are saying that gays can't go straight. If your mother is really your mother, there had to be a father, so she had to be hetero once. If she some day changed her ways and decided to be homo, then that can change, hmm. Logical problem here with some people's world view.
More directly, why would you want to ask her? Start with, "Mom, I've noticed some things that seem odd...." Describe a couple. Listen a lot. Always love your mother, your mother will always love you, no matter what is said.

Hard to answer when you've provided no background info. Anyways, my mum came out when I was about 10. I'd had my suspicions for a bit, and just asked her one morning, and she totally honest with me. I was a bit upset about it for a bit and was petrified about anybody at school finding out, but it was all pretty cool really and now I get on brilliantly with her. What's funny, is that I'm gay myself, and I definitely took the news the worst compared to my two straight siblings, who really didn't care.

Yes you can. Be prepared to answer the question, "What makes you think that?" If she's a big lady with a temper, have a table between the two of you.
