Mammograms can be quite uncomfortable as they do squash your boobs - don't know if it's worse if they are small or large! I am of 'normal' height and found the position I had to stand in to fit into a machine a little uncomfortable. However, I had a lump and would rather feel a little embarrassed having my boobs out, and a little uncomfortable having them squashed by a machine than not knowing if I had anything wrong with me. The machines are fantastic and the people who use them have seen it all before and put you at your ease. After my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer I would do anything, however, uncomfortable or embarrassing to get myself checked out. I'm not an expert but believe the machine can detect darker areas, like shadows, if it finds anything. I say grit your teeth and bear it. Don't worry and better to be safe and know what's going on with your body. I wish you lots of luck.

Mammography is the process of using low-dose X-rays (usually around 0.7 mSv) to examine the human breast. It is used to look for different types of tumors and cysts. Mammography has been proven to reduce mortality from breast cancer. No other imaging technique has been shown to reduce risk, but self-breast examination (SBE) and physician examination are essential parts of regular breast care. In some countries routine (annual to five-yearly) mammography of older women is encouraged as a screening method to diagnose early breast cancer.

Like all x-rays, mammograms use doses of ionizing radiation to create this image. Radiologists then analyze the image for any abnormal growths. Despite continuous improvements and innovations, mammography has garnered a sizable opposition in the medical community because of an error rate that is still high and the amount of harmful radiation used in the procedure. (Gofinan) It is normal to use longer wavelength X-rays (typically Mo-K) than those used for radiography of bones.

Mammograms are absolutely safe and there is not risk at all. It is good and all ladies should have it done once in a year even if a lump is not found in the breast region. mammography is the only screening method which has been shown to actually save lives.
The cancer is detected if prevailing in this screening.
Do not hesitate. Have it done immediately.
