Have you tried glycerine suppositories, should work itself out in about an hour - at most. Available at most pharmacies, ask the pharmacist about dosage, but most kids will pass them before they are fully disolved. Quick, effective and relatively painless. (Just a little awkward - coat the tip with vaseline to ease entry.) Don't listen to those folks slammin you for asking other parents first. Parents are your most reliable and relavent resource! Not every little thing needs to entail an exhaustive trip to a doctors office. We have a phone number in Alberta called Health link with Registered Nurses answering 24/7, if I am really stuck I call them first. You should check to see if there is a similar service where you live.

By far, the most common advice for constipation is Karo syrup. Do not restrict your baby's food. Make certain baby is getting plenty of water too. I don't think your baby is getting enough liquid in his diet. It's not the food that is making him constipated. The food would more than likely give him upset stomach and colic type pain. They also make glycerin suppositories for infants that will help too.
But, until you get your baby regular with prunes, plums, applesauce, and plenty of formula and water (I'm guessing he's a formula baby because breast babies rarely have this problem), you can try Karo syrup, warm apple juice, and prune juice. The syrup should be put into water, not into the baby's formula, and just a small amount should be added. A teaspoon in two ounces of water is a reasonable amount. I wouldn't do it over twice the first day, and then perhaps once more, and then only occasionally as needed. If the constipation is coupled with crying that sounds like really severe pain, or persistent vomiting it's time to go to the closest doctor. But, if he's like most babies, the Karo and maybe a glycerin suppository will be all he needs to be just fine. You could even be writing back here in a couple of months wanting help with him going too much. Too bad they can't have this problem more frequently around 18 months when they like to take the diapers off and play in it. Yuck! See, the best is yet to come. ;-)

babies have constipation when they don't have enough water per day.the baby should have atleast 600ml to 700ml of liquid per day.this should include the amount of milk the baby drinks per day.
give the baby lots of fibre food,eg-ragi,brown bread, banana, carrot, beans, potato.
if it continues ask the doctor for laxatives.this will improve as the days proceed.
if the baby cries while passsing motion it means it is very hard to push so put vaseline or castor oil on the anus to smoothen the passage.but if blood comes with the hard motion pls check with the doctor.
thanks

Warm Apple juice may help. I think you are trying to say he is constipated. I had a friend who fed her baby 3-4 different foods in one meal her baby was always constipated, when I had her I might feed her green beans & milk for lunch & peaches & milk for dinner, with juice in between meals. She had a movement everytime she was at my house. Their little bellies cant digest all those differnt things together. So just a egg & juice for breakfast, a vegetable & milk for lunch & a fruit & milk for dinner so it can easily digest.

he finds it hard to pass stools probably becoz of constipation.it is always best to cut down on infant formulas like cerelac .instead give him banana, arrowroot porridge, orange juice during noon, sapota fruit.give all the foods in light consistency.u can include rasam in his noon diet along with vegetables like carrot, beans, cabbage (lesser qty).,cauliflower.
dals may be given every alternate day.

poor thing. stop giving him rice cereal, bananas and apples. all those can make it worse. go for food with more fiber. Prunes work for my baby. Peas, apricots, pears, peaches are others. pears also work for my baby. Dehydration can also make constipation worse.

Give him lots of water. Prunes and camomile tea is good too. Keep his diet fairly simple and dont mix too many different foods together at one time.
