I have mixed feelings about it. I love books 1-4 but then the final 3 just seem to lack the energy of the previous 4.

I have read the series a couple of times. At first, I thought the ending was rotten. I felt like I was robbed. Then I read it all again. It seemed to me that Roland was learning from his mistakes, and I realized it couldn't have really ended any other way.

I wonder if he still made the same mistakes in regards to Susan and his mom?

My mom and I have a theory about SK's newer stuff (in the past 8-10 years). We both think that his newer writing doesn't compare to the older stuff and it seems to be because he has lost his sense of humor.

Now, we don't know if it's because of the accident he had, or if it's because he got clean. Probably because he went sober....

I did read the series but over the course of the 20 some odd years he wrote it not all together. Every time I went back into Roland's world I was right back where we left the path of the beam even though I read most of them years apart.
I had mixed feelings about reading the last one at all because I knew it was going to be the end of this life long companionship I felt with the characters.
When I finally read it I was satisfied with it, even the ending, because Roland has always been on the quest, it is his 'Ka' if you will.
I loved the series, however I would like to see some kind of conclusion to The Talisman & Black House.
No author has ever drawn me into the characters lives the way King does.

No, I didn't like the ending. The end of IT was pretty feeble as well.

The Dark Tower series was brilliant but, like you said, the ending left a lot of readers with mixed feelings.

I gotta admit, I tried many times to get through book one and never managed-so I never got to the end. I think Mr. King was reaching in this series.

Actually, I have reason to believe that the ending of the tale is not yet there. There is nothing conclusive at all, it is just a continuing saga--disjointed at times--and one is left hankering for more.
