Some do fall of their perches.

My cockatiel does every night.

They just forget where they are.
They think they are still in the nestbox with their parents.

They have special muscles in their feet that are locked when they are asleep and when they want to fly or walk or whatever they have to make an action to release the grip, kinda opposite what we do. we can't hold on to something when we sleep, we have to be awake to grab hold.

Cause only the half of their brain sleep and the other half is awake...samething when they fly a long distance
