Egyptians are some of the nicest people in the world! They are very friendly and generally love meeting people from somewhere other than Egypt. Egypt as a country is really fairly safe in comparison to the rest of the world. In fact your more likely to have something bad happen to you in New York, L.A., or Chicago than you are in all of Cairo. You have no reason to be scared. Wash out all the media crap and hearsay that's currently in your mind and go. I've never felt unsafe anywhere in Egypt and I love going back. I never get tired of it. As far as religions go the majority of Egyptians are muslim. Mostly traditional(sunni) muslims with a smaller percentage being shiite. After that there is a small percentage of Christians mostly coptic with very few other sects. Then there are extremely small percentages of Jews and Pagans. There are also small percentages of Ghawazee's (descendants of the Romani gypsies) some of who still follow in the religious path of the Romani which may be altered to somewhat fit along the standards of christianity and islam. Many of them have converted to islam although they often seem to follow it only nominally so. However religion will not affect you safety so I don't see much relavance to the original question you posed. Don't be scared because they are muslim because most muslims are not terrorists and most muslims do not approve of terrorist actions taken by the SMALL factions of terroists such as al-quida and the taliban.

Egypt is a wonderful country to visit. The Egyptian people are very friendly and kind to tourists, especially children. The historical sites are amazing and the shopping is great. Be sure to bargain at the souks and you will get good prices. (If you don't bargain you will pay 2 x as much.) The main religions are Islam and Copt Christians. Since it is a Muslim country you should dress conservatively in long clothes that are not too tight. This will also have the added advantage of not attracting too much attention from the local men who will harass you otherwise.(They are harmless, just lonely. My Egyptian husband had to threaten to throw one tten age boy over a cliff who was making inappropriate comments about me because I am an American.)
Relax and have fun on your trip. It will be amazing.

i just returned from Egypt it was my 6th visit and almost without exception everyone is warm and friendly it is safe to walk around in most areas, the only advise i would give is to have change for taxi drivers and also to negotiate the fare before you hop in
the main religion is Islam but there is a Christian (Coptic) community too

theres nothing to be scared of in egypt ive been there several times i met the most amazing guy there we got engaged and all sorts but unfortunatly he chose to have a arranged marriage...so its now over between us..still theres plenty more fish in the sea..or should i say over the sea!..but realy you will love it so much..and i will go back and i cant wait..

Yes, Egyptians are very nice to foreigners, great hospitality. nobody will hate you! main religions are Islam and Christianity (Orthodox and Catholic)

They are very welcoming!
The main religions are Islam and Coptic Christiantiy and a handful of Jews.
Theres almost a church for every mosque there.

they react very normal... if you are friendly with them, they would treat you like princess.. if you treat with angry face, you will have the same treatment... we are normal human-been and we appreciates any person appreciates us and deal in a nice way with us.. so just be yourself while you are in Egypt, and you will enjoy your vacation...
