Mainly psychology - something he learned from Glen McGrath.
He has excellent pace, and can control that pace. Whilst not quite in the same league as McGrath when it comes to line and length, he does try to be persistant in that department. He can also swing the ball both ways. And he uses his pace cleverly as a tool of intimidation.
Getting into the batsman's mind, and pre-occupying his thoughts with safety distracts him from trying to score, and thus makes his wicket more vulnerable.
This is what makes Lee a great bowler.

Well, in the current tournament, it was poor-umpiring that helped him to get 12 wickets. And secondly: How many wickets has he taken of a genuine-batsman, or in-form batsman?
Lee´s performance in the DLF-Cup-2006
He has taken the wickets of (exc. Genuine-batsman & in-form): Hinds, Sehwag, Patel, RP.Singh, Bradshaw, Smith & Baugh.
And now, the turn of the wickets he took due to poor-umpiring: Chanderpaul, Dhoni, Gayle.
Geniune-batsman & in-form (inc. Only right decisions): Lara, Tendulkar.
And, if you´re asking it overall then, I would still say that he is just a good bowler, not the great or greatest. He is even not the best in his team. McGrath is much better bowler than him. Comparing to Shoaib Akhtar then, I would say that he better than Shoaib. Because he has only got the speed, but Lee has also got the variaties, like yorker, he also bowls on the good line-and-lenght.
Rawal.

he is definitely not a good bowler!!! the only thing he has got is just umpire's faith so that he allows him to take wickets on no balls!!! like he bowled out dhoni on a no ball who was caught by damien martin!!!the australian team must learn a new lesson of honesty!!
