i used to read these mystery books in the 80's. you could choose which way to go...TO GO "upstairs" turn to pg. 58. TO GO "downstairs" turn the page.

The "Choose Your Own Adventure" novels. I read a ton of these when I was in grade school.

They were called "Choose Your Own Adventures." Many different authors did them. Wikipedia has a whole page about them.

Choose Your Own Adventures. I always hated it when the path I chose lead to certain doom.
