Use an automotive paint scratch remover such as Meguiar's #9 Swirl remover to get rid of mild scratches. I had an Xbox game that had been tossed around and wouldnt play anymore. I put the paint scratch remover stuff on a clean towel and started to rub it in to the cd, after about 6 or 7 minutes of working the swirl remover into the back of the disk i cleaned it off with a clean towel and took a look. all the minor scratches were gone and the mild ones were really small. if i had kept on going, they would have eventually faded as well. this stuff works great on video ipod scratches too. theres also a brass cleaning product called Brass-o that work well at removing scratches, but i havent tried that personally. Any automotive paint scratch remover will work just make sure to pick up a towel that wont scratch it up more, such as microfiber or terrycloth towels.

Try Brasso, a brass polish that got a lot of attention for removing scratches from the iPod nano. It's cheaper than CD-specific products.

Use a CD repair kit sold at any typical store where CD/DVD are sold, however they only work on light scratches... anything too deep will ruin it for good.

We use toothpaste and it works most everytime. Use the white/paste kind (not gel) and rub it gently in circles with your finger with a drop (very little water). The rinse, towel dry and you are ready to rock!
