I would head straight to medic school unless you have the opportunity to work on a 911 truck as an EMT-B. If you are working for a private service doing dialysis transports, the experience you're getting won't do you much good in medic school. Medic school is difficult, but it's also very rewarding. Medic salaries in my area, Dallas, range from $14/hr to $51,000 per year. The fire departments handle EMS in this area, so to work on a 911 truck you pretty much have to be a firefighter as well. I don't know if it is the same in your area. The private services in my area pay medics closer to the $14 an hour range, and the fire departments pay anywhere from $35000 to $51000 in my area. Hope this helps.

I would Suggest at least 6 months field work as a EMT-B, before persuing EMT-P as it is much easier to pass paramedic when you have hands on. but by all means persue your paramedic
