There are some advantages.
(Note: smart Means both mentally and physically)
By having smartest employees you can extract work from them easily as their level of perception will be fairly good.
Delegating the works will be easy and you can depend them.
Smart guys will make the environment more lively.
But there is one disadvantage that the smart guys may take over his/ her boss if the boss is not smart.

Smart employees are intelligent but often think they are above menial jobs. It takes a smart employer to know who can do the busy work and who can do the down to the wire analyzing.
