just because a president retires from the office does not mean he ceases to have a voice/ influence... Clinton and Carter manage to stay in the public eye quite a bit... as far as President Bush's remaining time in office.... there really is not enough time left to accomplish anything new... a few things that were/ are important to him, did not pass... but some of his things did.... I think he will coast till retirement...then write his book like they all do...lol..

No. The elections coming up this November are for seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The Presidential election doesn't happen until 2008.
The elections happening this year are almost as big a deal as the Presidential election because the House and Senate right now are controlled by Republicans, who hold a majority of the seats. Bush has been able to to the damage he's done because they have 'rubber stamped' so much--they and the courts are the bodies designed to provide the 'check' on Presidential power--and they're all Republican controlled. Bush has been pretty much able to do whatever he has wanted to do, with majority Republican votes in both.
If the majority of the seats in either the House or Senate or both goes to the Democrats in November, the balance of power in Washington is going to shift. And, with a Democrat majority in the House, Bush (hopefully Cheney as well) can possibly be impeached and removed from office.
If Bush is going to hit the unemplyment line in 3-4 months, it will be because he is impeached, not because his elected term of 'service' -- and I use that word VERY loosely--has ended.
Bush's influence will be ongoing because it will take so very long to undo the harm he has done. Not that some of it can ever be undone, but even to get the USA back onto to more moderate and reasonable footing politically is going to take years. The neo-conservative hardliners have been in power now for a while, and it will take some doing to get them out.

I will try to answer what you asked in "additional detials"
No we are not holding elections for 2008, we are holding elections for 2006 and whoever is elected will take office in Janurary 2007. We are NOT voting for president. Bush has 2 years left to his term.
We are voting for House represenitives and Senators and in some areas local leaders.
We have elections every year. Some are local and some are country wide. The way our system is set up not all leaders and lawmakers who are elected are re-elected at the same time.
Presidents serve for 4 years. After the first 4 years they can be re-elected to another 4 year term. Then that is it. 8 years is the most a president can be in office.

Presidents during "wartime" can use the excuse to cancel the elections until the "crisis" has passed although none of them ever have, including Lincoln in 1964 & FDR in 1944.
I don't see much accomplished in the next 2 yrs, quite frankly.
This is not meant as a partisan statement; just my impression of where everything stands today.

He has a couple more years left. Even if repubs lose power this november there wont be any impeachment hearings because most of todays politicians are ran by money regardless of what spectrum they come from.

Actually he has until 2008 unless he is impeached which is not likely to happen. He will probably continue to mess things up. What else can I say.
