Yup - 1980 after a failed attempt at being the Atlanta Flames a group of Calgary business types thought it would be a good thing for the city. Played at the Stampede Corral (great arena!).
First reg. season game against Quebec- tied 1-1, Thurs. Oct. 9, 1980.
p.s. - tickets were $21.00 for row 7...FYI - heh.

The Flames moved from Atlanta to Calgary in 1980.

The became huge when they knocked off Gretsky and the Oilers in 1986 in the playoffs and again in that thrilling series in 1989, 9 years after they moved from Atlanta, and then they went on to win the Cup that year!!!!!! Who knows how many Cups Edmonton might have won if it werent for the Flames.
