You don't go to the bathroom on yourself. The pressure of labor pretty much closes off the other orifices. If there is nothing in your colon then there is less chance of the contents hurting you during contractions. A jello only diet is a bad idea, you and the baby will need all the good nutrition that you can get for the ordeal of labor.

I think you must have misunderstood. The hospital will only let you eat jello and broth while your in labor so you won't go on yourself. Because it will be digested as liquid. It doesn't stop you from going on yourself. Alot of women go and never even know it. Don't worry about it. Just focus on that little angel coming into the world! CONGRATULATIONS!

The reason they tell you not to eat when you are in labor is so you don't throw up during labor, food and labor are hard on your stomach
My husband said they just clean it like no big deal and throw it in the bag below you where the rest of the stuff that's comes out of you goes, their use to seeing it
so don't worry
have two kids myself

Sounds like an old wives tale to me.
As for going to the bathroom on urself, its natural and the nurses, doctors and midwives dont even blink an eye at it. So dont stress.

don't worry about using the bathroom on yourself. It happens to most all ladies. The nurses and doctors think nothing of it.

Never heard of this. Don't worry about what natural functions your body might do during labour - they have seen everything, and then some! My sis is a nurse, and warned me about it, so I wouldn't be embarassed if it happened.

never herd that one! we used to be given an enema before birth but they don't do that any more ,shame because not only did you have less in your bowls ,it helped labour progress.you can buy them but dont use it till you know your in labour.
