I gave birth to all three of my children without an epidural. The first two were not too bad, but my last child was 9lb, 7oz and I had a really hard time delivering him because of his size. I never believed in epidurals before, but I wish I would have gotten one this last time. I had my baby 11 days ago and I still hurt. Next time I'm getting the epidural.

Family history may influence how bad your labor is. I will admit though, with my first two, I did get an epidural, and it was great! They were not able to get it in with my third child, but by the time they were ready for me to push, I felt so much better. I really don't have a preference one way or the other, but I will warn you - with the epidural with the first one, it took a little bit to get the feeling back into my legs as it numbs you from the waist down. And you can always ask for one up until the last possible moment( at least I could). the soonest that they will probably let you have it is a t a 4 or 5 dilation.

I had epidurals with both of my children. Honestly the needle in the back is like tossing peanuts compared to labour pain. There are also unwanted side effects that can go along with epidurals too though. I had a major headache after both of mine as well as a rash (I found out after my second that I was slightly allergic) Once you have the epidural it is almost immediate relief. Don't discount it out of hand. It won't make you less of a mother if you do it.

I never wanted to have an epidural, I don't like needles so it wasn't something I wanted to do. After I was in labor for 4 hours and all the pain was in my back I had all of my family telling me to do it.
After it was done, I had instant relief. I was actually able to sleep for a few minutes. It did slow my labor down a little bit though.
I say do it, when I have another baby I am doing it as soon as I can.

I never had an epidural with my son i just had gas and air and pethadine.
Everybody is different and has different pain thresholds i personally loved giving birth didnt hurt that much, to me the only thing that hurt was the contractions. But liek i said everyone is different my friend had 5 epidurals with her daughter and she said it was so painful she never wanted to do it again.

Before I had an epidural, I was just in so much pain and agony. I finally caved in and asked for one. I felt soooooooo much better and since the pain was gone, I was able to relax and finally get some sleep. I had no pain or discomfort until it was time to push. I had some pressure when I delivered my son.

The pain of labour is largely in your head. It may be difficult to get through, but remember that it is a working pain, and what you feel is major stretching.
Epidurals affect the baby, and don't always work. They can also cause infections. It is worth educating yourself and trying to give birth naturally, it is healthiest for you and your baby.
