I have had back pain for about 3.5 years now. I am not overweight. I am 31, and a mother of two--too young for this!
I not only have pain in my upper back, it is also within my rib cage. It is sore, and has lasted a couple years now. The pain sometimes turns into a cramp or spasm. I have let many a doctor know this, but they blow it off or prescribe medication that I do not have the luxury of taking (makes me dopey and drowsy). What could this be? Also the boney place between my shoulders often swells up a bit when I am stressed. What could this be? Serious answers please :)

You know, I just went to a site on fibromyalgia and wow, I was shocked. I will check with a chiropractor first, but if the pain does not subside this is where I am leaning towards.
Thanks.

Visit or call to schedule a visit with a chiropractor. Have problem diagnosed. When I go, I wear a sports bra or camisole (with no metal) and a loose t-shirt on top. That way I don't need to change into a gown. He can pull the neck of the t-shirt down to apply the heat or cold treatment patches on the upper back or pushes the sleeve up if he needs to get to shoulders. He was able to x-ray my spine while I was wearing street clothes. It's $40 per visit for me but it has been well worth it.

My chiropractor did recommend Tai Chi but I haven't started yet. I've been doing daily exercises he's prescribed though.

I don't like to take too much medication either. Good luck.

My friend is going to nursing school. She told me that Fybromalgia was made up for the hypochondriacs. Chiropractors treat symptoms. Physical therapists treat problems. The person who suggested x-rays sounds convincing. Could be something more to it. Explain to your Doctor that your the customer and they are not satisfying your needs by prescribing pain killers. Insist on further testing. Good luck.

I would say stress is causing tense muscles and sore spots.
Also you might have weak muscles. How's your posture? Find out some exercises to strengthen your back and stretch often. Try things to help you unwind, the occasional deep massage if you can afford it or even getting someone you know to give you one.

What about your bed/mattress? Can't rule that out. I hope it gets better, that's a long time to have been putting up with the pain.

fibromyalgia?

You might try some yoga to stretch and oxgenate your chest area.

Try deep breathing.........slow and exale slow a few times a day. It is amazing the toll a mother's body takes, even if you are very healthy.

If it continues try another doctor.

You might also be having improper bra support. Amazing but that can be true for a woman of any breast size.

Best wishes to you

Trust me. Please? Pretty much same thing happened to me. Go to a chiropractor. They charge only about $30-50, you don't have to get undressed, it takes just a few minutes, and you'll FINALLY be over that pain. Let a chiropractor assess you. Soon.

Could be a misalignment which MDs just treat with painkillers. See this webpage.
