It can, but not always. If you download from untrusted sites, it might download a virus or spyware with the program or file you are trying to download. Just be careful, and try to pick the better sites. Also, use Ad-Aware, Spybot, and an antivirus program. These programs can be found for free (and legally) at www.download.com. These programs will help protect and remedy any virus or spyware problems you have.

well as w/ downloading anything it slows down your computer because you are using up more space. Sometime viruses are inbedded in downloaded music also. it is best to virus scan and defragment your computer after you get done downloading. You need to find a site that lets you download this program calle Tune Up. It helps your computer stay running fast and deltes useless internet file, cookies and extra. It helped my computer A LOT!

MP3 files are non executable. I wouldn't worry about it. If you scan it and there is a virus then it is a fake file - NOT and MP3 and the extension has been changed. If you get that just delete the file, it can't do anything to your computer unless you actually ran it as an exe.

If you download off untrustworthy sources you are compramising you security. Some file-sharing networks are packaged with spyware. Soulseek is a good clean program. The best thing you can do to keep your system secure is to have a good antivirus.

downloading music!
I dont think so!
If so, you need to kill first the virus so you can download it!
How?
Follow this step:
buy an antiseptic or anti bacterial medicine
then get the droplet and if you see some unnecessary step done by your computer or if you think their is a virus their.
Drop the antiseptic!
For sure the virus will die!

Possibly, since some downloadable files come with rootkits. For prevention, buy legitimate downloads, or better yet, buy the CDs.
