I'm American (3rd generation of Irish, British and German extraction) and love REAL football - my friends (from our days in a NYC hardcore skinhead crew) support different teams (one guy who is now a semi-pro player here in the States loves Arsenal, another, an NBC cameraman supports Chelsea, and a friend from East London supports...well, you know) - but not ever having travelled to the UK yet, I don't really know which team is the one worthy of my undying loyalty...so fans, sell your team to this Yank! Why is your club the one I need to support?

No one can answer this question. Supporting a football team is more than watching them play on the weekends. The successes they have had is not even relevant.Genuine football fans support their teams even when the chips are down.eg: Ask any Liverpool supporter if they stopped supporting their team at half time in the champions league final two seasons ago.Now I am not saying support Liverpool. My point is simply that, these teams can bring out some real emotions in a person like frustration, tension, excitement, joy. I have even seen some supporters in tears after a game (win or loose). If a team can bring that emotion out of a person, then you have found your team

Here are my suggestions... 1. Philadelphia Eagles. OK, so I am biased here, but first of all, we do have a solid team with a passionate fan base. Not to mention so genuinely rude to the point that we are infamous for booing Santa Claus (and we had enough sense to boo Sarah Palin at a Flyers game as well.) 2. Green Bay Packers. America is known for rooting for the underdog, and in a league as lucrative as the NFL, why not root for a team which is in the smallest MARKET of any of the four major leagues in the US? 3. I don't know if you support Aston Villa FC, but if you do, you may as well "keep it in the family" and support the NFL team that Randy Lerner owns --- The Cleveland Browns. I also heard that some Villa fans have established a supporters club for the franchise (talk about love), and you can actually buy Cleveland Browns jerseys at the Aston Villa's main store in Birmingham. 4. If you HATE Villa, and love their rival, then you may as well be consistent and support the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hope this helps.

you don't pick the team, the team will pick you. just watch a variety of teams, and eventually one will just stick out and you'll end up supporting and rooting for them overtime.
