Yes, it is historically correct and an excellent film EXCEPT for the deliberate "mistakes" the film makers added when it was first released in theaters, anyone who saw and could name each "mistake" would win one hundred thousand dollars......no one won.
One of the "mistakes" was when Forrest was in Vietnam, one of his buddies had a pack of Marlboro flip-top box cigarettes in the band of his helmet, flip-top boxes weren't invented until the mid-1980's! (Not even thought of in the 60's) This was a deliberate mistake.

Definitely one of the ultimate best pictures!!
My favourite line in it: "Run Forest, run!!!!!" Remember it? My sister and I still use the line when we want to hurry up each other.
Forest Gump is in the list with my following all time favourites:
Saving Private Ryan, The English Patient, Shawshank Redemption, Shindlers' List, Enemy at the Gates, Message in a Bottle, The Messenger, Gladiator etc. All good movies!! A category of their own.

Yep. Is excellent history from late 1950's to 1985 or so and was chronically precise by date order. Real footage and acting made it real if just for a second.

Yes, I think it is and I think Tom Hanks was what made it the best. Think about it. Who else could have done it justice? I loved it and I watch it over and over.
