Hi. First question? The tree structure (diagram) is a man made way of visualizing the process of evolution/extinction. The longest "branches" are the successful ones.

Not sure what a tree structure is. There is competition within the same species. It can be darwinian if say one group of humans fights another. The one who is stronger will win and its genes will survive. Darwin does not think that one species will not compete with other members of that species. Hopefully, I understood the question. Using a tree as an analogy, the branch that is the strongest will grow the highest.

Surviving species don't have to "fight", they have to be best suited for their environments at a particular time, not even best suited, just well suited enough to pass on their alleles. It's not as if neanderthal and cromagnon had a war in which neanderthal won and got to live, neanderthal was overall better suited for the environment. They survived and reproduced while cromagnon died out.

The "common ancestors" of trees and man are elements like hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon. Evolution did not "go through trees" to came up with us; whatever gave you THAT idea?

not only predators but also other competitors for food. It would of course vary in different areas how ever a few of the predators would have been lions, wolves, tigers hyenas , jackals and bears
