When Christopher Columbus came to America he thought he was in China or India (which is what he was looking for). What's more, he died without knowing this was a new world. That's why the native people from America were called 'indians'. The main reason why the Spanish came to America was because they wanted to conquer and exploit the gold that the natives had. The reason why the English came to America was to colonize (and also look for gold).

To slaughter all the indians and take what was there. To claim a new promised land. To look for things that brought them more money.
Greed.
The first Europeans where treated very well by the indians. Then they got ill from their new diseases, and they where taken care for. Then more Europeans came, and they started to slaughter the original people.
