That's why the native people from America were called 'indians'. The main reason why the Spanish came to America was because they wanted to conquer and exploit the gold that the natives had. The reason why the English came to America was to colonize (and also look for gold).

The first Europeans where treated very well by the indians. Then they got ill from their new diseases, and they where taken care for. Then more Europeans came, and they started to slaughter the original people.
